In Geghama mountains on the slopes of Aragatz and Ukhtasar were found many rock carvings, the oldest of which were about 9000 years old.
The main theme of the pictures are animals, that lived in those areas, on some of them there are figures of humans. On the others some scenes of human’s everyday life can be seen, hunting, fishing, battles, rituals and so on. Some show the symbols of worship of ancient times.
These carvings give a good conception about life of ancient Armenians, their traditions and culture, they are very significant as primary source of history.
In Geghama mountains pictures were made on blue stones. They got this color because of lightning strikes, the surface color of stones sharply differs from internal color. So this makes the pictures very distinct, especially when you look at them under right angle of sunbeams.
